Summer Camp
Project implemented by Arunima Active, Kolkata
ARUNIMA ACTIVE, a Centre for Training, Integration & Vocational Education. The Summer camp is one of the main activities of the organisation. In this we try to achieve various goals, like, 'inclusion', 'mainstreaming', 'socialization', 'behaviour modification' etc. through an enjoyable stint of 10 days.
Though the main focus is always on the 'differently abled' children, this year (2018), there were a number of mainstream children also. This year we had 25 participants from different schools in the city.
They presented several songs, a short program of rhythm and music, and a skit on the journey of a train. The mothers of the participants also took part by presenting two beautiful songs.
The camp started on 21st May. The concluding ceremony was held on 30th May, 2018. Swarupa Das, a wheel-chair bound High School Teacher with Paraplegia graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Her story, the way she fought with all odds to be where she is today, her indomitable spirit, touched all who were present, and motivated the parents to support and guide their children to fulfill their potential.
This Camp is eagerly awaited for by the children and parents alike. Like all the previous years, the camp days were spent with much fun, joy and creative satisfaction.
Supporting the Visually Impaired Girls
Project implemented at the NAB Center for Blind Women and Disability Studies
A special project was organized to support empowerment and rehabilitation of young adult visually impaired girls through different contemporary training and life skills, ultimately routing them for suitable professional higher education and employments. With the help of computer training - “Text to Speech” Softwares, the Visually Impaired Girls are able to study independently and faster also.
For this, CH selected 24 of those differently abled students, who were undergoing educational training to earn their livelihood. CH donated 2 desktops, 1 laptop and 1 printer which will not only help the present batch of beneficiaries but many more to come in the near future.
This campaign provided them to explore new avenues and to achieve their desired target in life. This is what Children’s Hope believes in and has been striving to change the lives of the less fortunate by empowering them through support.
