What do we do?

Estimates vary, but some say up to a half of India's children do not go to school. Many take on jobs or work informally to support their families. More than 20 million of them live in slums across India. These children are extremely vulnerable; facing extreme poverty and with limited access to support services, they are easily pressed into child labor, begging, substance abuse, early marriage, or prostitution. They also face severe health risks. In India, 20% of children under five years of age suffer from wasting due to acute malnutrition, which has lasting negative effects on their growth and development. And, immunization rates are low by international standards.

While the task can seem daunting, we know that enabling children to get an education, increasing their access to health care, and improving the prospects for their mothers and families, has profound impact.

Children's Hope supports a range of projects that strategically tackle the many challenges that children and families face. We look at the most dire needs in communities and respond accordingly—supporting projects ranging from pre-school "balwadis" to mobile health vans to gender awareness workshops. Since our founding, we have reached out to thousands of children and families, changing lives and offering new possibilities.
